In 2018, our family lived in London for five months, and I fell in love with Britain. Our three children went to a primary school near Holland Park, my husband had an office near Gloucester Road, and I explored. I discovered a city and a culture that treasures the past while embracing change. We experienced generous hospitality from relative strangers who became dear friends. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of a busy city, I learned to slow down and notice the beauty of simple everyday events. Traveling outside of London introduced us to the stunning natural and cultivated beauty of the English and Scottish countryside. The historic Market Towns, quaint one-pub villages, public walking paths, and stone walls were amazing reminders of the richness of our world.
Briton Home was born out of a desire to keep the experience alive by sharing with others my favorite aspects of British culture. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a beautiful yet functional piece of British pottery or hand-designed fabric is even better suited to capture the distinctive British blend of whimsy and sturdiness. I returned to the UK in December to build relationships with local artisans whose work captures this ideal.
My hope is for each product I share to give you a little sense of delight with every use, and to remind you of your own favorite place-- or just of the big beautiful world that exists beyond our everyday. May they cause you to pause and rest or wonder, knowing you are sharing a very British moment!
